How to Cook Lentils

Believe it or not, lentils are very easy to cook and prepare!

How to cook with lentils

  1. Lentils do not require soaking!

  2. To cook on top of the stove, combine lentils with water in a saucepan. Use 3 cups water to each cup of lentils. Be sure to use a large enough saucepan, as lentils will double or triple in volume during cooking.

  3. Bring to a boil, cover tightly, reduce heat and simmer until they are tender, removing before they become mushy.

  4. The best way to check if lentils are done is to taste them. Cooked lentils should crush easily in your mouth. A 250 mL (1 cup) measure of dried pulses will yield approximately 625 to 750 mL (2 to 3 cups) when cooked.
